With the current fears over global warming combined with rising energy prices, there is a lot of incentive for people to make their houses as energy efficient as possible. Rising sea levels make the problem of global warming particularly threatening to Florida as so much of the state is exposed to water. Fortunately, there are green ways of constructing houses that will minimize a structure’s carbon footprint. This allows the owners to save money in the long-run and make a small contribution to fighting global warming at the same time.

One of the best ways to make a property green is to preserve trees during construction. These trees, on top of being attractive and lending a home an established air, provide a windbreak to winter winds and will shade a house in the summer. By offering the house shade, the trees reduce the amount of energy needed to keep the house cool in the summer. If that isn’t enough, an established tree can take as much as 60 pounds of pollutants out of the air in a single year.

Another way of saving money on energy is by installing energy efficient windows. These windows combine a variety of technologies like lowemittance (low-E) glass coatings, gas filler between layers, and composite framing materials. The technologies help to keep heat inside in the winter and outside in the summer.

In addition to energy-efficient windows, there are new, energy efficient insulation options. In addition to the glass fiber batting, there are now sprayed insulations made of foam, cellulose, or wool as energy efficient alternatives. A simple measure such as increasing the R-value of insulation is a cost-effective way to save energy and help to reduce the heating bills in the winter and cooling bills in the summer. These two areas of bills amount to roughly half of the energy used in a house.

A design feature that does not require any extra materials gets the placement of a house involved. People who build custom homes are at an advantage when it comes to the final method of cost saving and green measures. If a home is designed by an individual and placed on a specific lot, the home owner can request that the south side of the house have more or larger windows than the other portions of the house. This measure will allow the house to capture more heat in the winter and also provide more natural lighting to the home year-round. Using natural lighting saves money on electricity and in a variety of other areas, such as purchasing light bulbs. While any home can incorporate the previous energy-efficient models, only a custom-built home can be placed so that this is true.

By: Joseph Devine

About the Author:

Green energy refers to the use of power that is not only more efficient than fossil fuel but that is friendly to the environment as well. Green energy is generally defined as energy sources that dont pollute and are renewable.

There are several categories of green energy. They are anaerobic digestion, wind power, geothermal power, hydropower on a small scale, biomass power, solar power and wave power. Waste incineration can even be a source of green energy.

Nuclear power plants claim that they produce green energy as well, though this source is fraught with controversy, as we all know. While nuclear energy may be sustainable, may be considered renewable and does not pollute the atmosphere while it is producing energy, its waste does pollute the biosphere as it is released.

The transport, mining and phases before and after production of nuclear energy does produce and release carbon dioxide and similar destructive greenhouse gases. When we read of green energy, therefore, we rarely see nuclear power included.

Those who support nuclear energy say that nuclear waste is not, in fact, released into our earths biosphere during its normal production cycle. They stress as well that the carbon dioxide that nuclear energy production releases is comparable, in terms of each kilowatt hour of electricity, to such sources of green energy as wind power.

As an example of the green energy production the average wind turbine, such as the one in Reading England, can produce enough energy daily to be the only energy source for 1000 households.

Many countries now offer household and commercial consumers to opt for total use of green energy. They do this one of two ways. Consumers can buy their electricity from a company that only uses renewable green energy technology, or they can buy from their general supplies such as the local utility company who then buys from green energy resources only as much of a supply as consumers pay for.

The latter is generally a more cost – efficient way of supplying a home or office with green energy, as the supplier can reap the economic benefits of a mass purchase. Green energy generally costs more per kilowatt hour than standard fossil fuel energy.

Consumers can also purchase green energy certificates, which are alternately referred to as green tags or green certificates. These are available in both Europe and the United States, and are the most convenient method for the average consumer to support green energy. More than 35 million European households and one million American households now buy these green energy certificates.

While green energy is a great step in the direction of keeping our environment healthy and our air as pollutant free as possible, it must be noted that no matter what the energy, it will negatively impact the environment to some extent.

Every energy source, green or otherwise, requires energy. The production of this energy will create pollution during its manufacture. Green energys impact is minimal, however.

By: James Copper

About the Author:

If you’ve been keeping current on research into alternative energy solutions, undoubtedly you have encountered discussion of perpetual motion machines. Perpetual motion machines are applications that once set it motion will run indefinitely or forever without a need for fueling or electrical input. At one time, perpetual motion machines were the stuff of science fiction. People thought them to be a fantasy of wild eyed inventors. Not any more. In the new millennium, billions of dollars have been channeled into research and development of perpetual motion machines. Attitudes have change drastically as the world searches for a solution to the energy crisis we are facing.

Understanding Perpetual Motion Machines

To understand this concept of perpetual motion, consider a child’s swing. The swing continues to move backwards and forward so long as you continue pushing or as long as the child continues a pumping action that moves the toy. If you stop pushing, or the child stops pumping, the swing will slow down and eventually stop moving. This is caused by frictional losses. However, with a perpetual motion machine, the story is a different one. The movement continues indefinitely without slowing down or stopping. The machine itself produces enough energy that it creates motion while managing to overcome the frictional losses that the swing experiences.

When we consider ordinary machines and motors, we know that they run on a fuel supply of some type — electricity, gasoline, diesel fuel, etc. The motion continues for as long at the fuel is present. When the fuel runs out, the machine slows and stops. However, if you find a way to power the machine with magnetic energy, the machine runs indefinitely without stopping. This magnetic energy is the basis of the current interest and research into perpetual motion machines.

The Free Energy Magnetic Motor

Magnetically powered perpetual motion machines would lend themselves to an array of purposes and uses. However, the motivation driving the research and development in this field is the desire to use the machines to create electrical energy. Thus created, the electricity could be distributed by power lines, just as electricity is distributed today. A perpetual motion machine powered by magnetic force is called a free energy magnetic motor. It utilizes the everlasting magnetic force in a magnet and uses this force to create motion. At present, rotary motion machines are the most common examples under development.

At this writing, there are no free energy magnetic motor machines being marketed commercially. However, this could change before long. Several prototypes are developed and expected to be released within a few months. Nevertheless, it may be the better part of a decade before these machines are widely available and priced low enough to fit the typical consumer’s budget. In the meantime, do-it-yourself fans might want to experiment with an alternative energy source of their own making.

Do-It-Yourself Magnet Motor

The magnet motor is catnip to do-it-yourself enthusiasts who are scrambling to generate free electricity using magnets and motion. Many are powering their homes with this free power and are enthusiastic about the results and the financial savings. Already many enthusiasts are building their own hand-made versions of the magnetic motor to power their homes. The result is green, renewable, environmentally friendly energy – and once you have bought your supplies to build the motor – it’s free.

Although it helps if you are handy with tools and motors, making one of these magnetic perpetual motions machines is not difficult. You need basic tools and supplies readily available at any hardware store. When you’ve built your machine, you will reap the fruits of your labor. You will be generating energy with no emissions whatsoever. Very little maintenance will be necessary. The system will work round the clock, unlike some other alternate energy sources that require wind or sun. Even better, you may be able to sell any additional electricity back to the power company and make a bit of cash.

Perpetual motion magnetic machines are an exciting and viable source of energy with far reaching implications for the planet.

With energy costs rising each and every year it is no wonder people are looking for an alternative forms of energy. The best alternative is green energy. Green energy is energy produced in ways that have little or no impact on the earth. Why is green so important? If you want to see why then turn on your TV and you will see how the human race has impacted our planet. Our ice caps are melting, our ozone is deteriorating, green house gases are changing our climate and these are just the beginning.

It has become so apparent that we need to start making changes that governments have started joining in on the battle. Unfortunately our governments are more concerned about money than our actual environment. This is where you and I can start to step in. If everyone started using a renewable source of energy we could potentially change the course of our deteriorating environment.

How do you start?

Well, there are many forms of renewable energy out there ready and waiting to be harnessed and used. There are 3 basic forms of renewable energy that everyday people like you and I can use.

1)If you live near or next to a waterfall you could start harnessing water power to generate enough power to power your home and them some! How do you think people use to get power back in the day?

2)As long as you live somewhere where you get sun from sun rise to sun set you can use solar power to generate power to power your home. In order to harness the energy from our sun you need a solar panel system. Basically what solar panels do is capture the suns rays and that energy makes electricity.
Then there is wind energy.

3)Wind energy is harnessed by a wind turbine, as the wind blows the turbine energy is produced.

You’re probably thinking yes I know green energy is good for the environment. And yes I know that it can save me thousands of dollars every year on my electricity bill but I don’t have thousands of dollars to spend on purchasing a renewable energy system.

Well I’m here to tell you that you don’t need thousands of dollars to spend in order to start using renewable energy. I have found a DIY guide that shows you step-by-step how to start running your home off of solar or wind energy! Learn how you can start powering your home the green way and never have to pay an electricity bill again.

By: Vicky Gibbs

About the Author:

Anyone who is environmentally minded should be thinking about green power especially with the depletion of fossil fuels being imminent. Aside from the fact that we are simply running out of them and the price is becoming exorbitant, fossil fuels pollute the environment and there is just no excuse to be rely on them going forward.

Green energy sources are a much better bet for the future. Energy from these sources is sustainable and renewable – things like the water, the wind in the sun will never run dry and if we use them properly and responsibly we can be assured to have an infinite supply of energy that will not harm our environment.

Green power sources include the following:

Water

There’s actually several applications of water when it comes to power. You’re probably familiar with the Hoover Dam, which produces energy by running power through the Dam. In a similar application, one can actually use the current of a river to produce power. Additionally, scientists are now researching using the power of the tide as well is the power of waves for sustainable energy production.

Sun

Solar power is probably what comes to mind first when you think of renewable energy. This type of power uses the radiation from the sun to produce energy. Solar power can be as simple as having solar panels on your home or as complicated as a solar power plant that generates electricity for a town. Solar power relies on solar panels that collect the radiation from the sun and turned into energy. Once collected, it can be used for your home’s needs right away or stored in batteries for later use.

Wind

Windmills have been used for ages, but today’s wind turbines are a far cry from the scenic windmills of Holland. Be that as it may, wind can be a powerful energy producer and there are many turbine farms, as well as individual turbines for single family homes, throughout the US that help in renewable energy production that doesn’t produce any pollutants.

Biomass

Biomass actually refers to any biological material either living or recently dead. Technically fossil fuels could be considered biomass but they’ve been dead for so long that their structure is changed and they are not quite in the same category as things like wood. Burning wood or sugarcane is considered biomass fuel and since we can replant these things they are considered renewable. While they do cause carbon dioxide to be released into the air, the live versions of these actually absorb carbon dioxide so if you are replanting as much wood as you burn the net pollution would be negligible.

Looking towards the future, green power is definitely the way to go. Certainly, we haven’t researched these alternatives as much as we should have in the past but now it is obvious that we must come up with a different solution to meet our energy needs. Hopefully research will increase on all these fronts and we will soon be able to produce energy in a clean and renewable manner that will serve us for generations to come.

By: Atul B Tanna

About the Author:

President Bush has called for a 22% increase in federal grants for research and development of alternative energy. Unfortunately, the world thirst for oil is growing, not reducing. One of the major problems of transition to alternative energy is that higher oil and gas prices stimulate the economy through increased employment of industry workers and service and supply companies who support the oil industry, and from oil company profits which keep stocks lucrative on Wall Street. So, as prices rise, companies and employees and contractors are not always inclined to look for alternatives. But if oil production starts declining as some scientist and oil executives predict, we may face major supply problems, especially when it comes to transportation–cars, aircraft, trains and boats for which we have no ready alternative to petroleum-based fuels.

Cambridge Energy Research Associates speculate that oil will peak sometime after 2020, but a number of oil geologists and executives predict it will happen much sooner. According to a controversial new model developed by a Swedish physicist, global oil production will peak sometime between next year and 2018 and then decline. While the amount of new technologies and infrastructures that need to be developed and built is staggering, corporation after corporation is springing up around the world, helped by various governments’ tax breaks and rebate incentives, to drive forward the alternative energy mission.

Alternative or “green” energy becoming more profitable to investors and would-be employers, and the continued trouble-brewing in the Middle East, Nigeria, and other areas of importance to the oil-driven economy have made it clear to Americans that we are in need of developing new avenues of energy supply and production. Further, allegations that petrochemical processing and usage contribute to global warming are creating a world-populace demand for a switch to alternative forms of energy to decrease damage to the atmosphere.

Viable energy sources currently being developed, that can act as alternatives to mammoth amounts of oil and coal, include biofuels from things like corn, sugar cane, and soybeans, refined hydroelectric technology, natural gas, hydrogen fuel cells, the further building of atomic energy plants, the continued development of solar energy photovoltaic cells, more research into wind-harnessed power.

The most recently developed wind-turbine technologies have brought wind-produced energy which is more cost efficient as well as, typically, more market competitive with conventional energy technologies. Solar cell, or photovoltaic cell, technologies are already implemented in pocket calculators, private property lights, US Coast Guard buoys, and other areas. Because costs are falling, solar cells are becoming more common on the roofs of housing and commercial buildings and building complexes. Their energy efficiency (the ratio of the amount of work needed to cause their energy production versus the actual energy production) is steadily on the rise.

Photovoltaic cells create absolute zero pollution while generating electrical power. However, photovoltaic cells are not presently as cost effective as “utility produced” electricity. “PV” cells are not capable at present of producing industrial-production amounts of electricity.

Alternative energies derived from currents, tidal movement, and temperature differentials are poised to become a new and predominant form of clean energy. Some concerns for such energies have centered around the problems with the deterioration of metals in salt water, marine growth such as barnacles, and violent storms which have been problems in the past. However, these problems, for the most part, have been resolved through the use of different, better materials. Ocean-produced energy has a huge advantage because the timing of ocean currents and waves are well understood and reliable.

By: Vickie Adair

About the Author:
